THE Xiaomi revealed on Tuesday (24) another smartphone from the Mi Mix family, which since the first generation brings extremely thin borders to increase the use of the screen. But the Mi Mix Alpha this takes it to another level: it has a panel that runs down the sides and reaches the rear cameras. The price is even higher than that of folding cell phones: 19,999 yuan, equivalent to US $ 2,800 or R $ 11,500.
The Mi Mix Alpha is an exaggerated version of the waterfall screens that we are seeing on the latest smartphones, such as the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, which has more curved sides. However, in addition to having sharp curves, the display involves the entire device, with the two ends meeting in a vertical strip that houses the rear cameras. Therefore, Xiaomi says that the model has 180.6% of screen usage (?).
The smartphone almost all made of screen shows information such as battery level, signal strength and status bar icons on the sides. And there are no physical buttons to control the volume: this is done through pressure sensitive dots on the edge of the Mi Mix Alpha.
The rear track houses a 108 megapixel camera. The sensor was developed in partnership between Samsung and Xiaomi to capture very high resolution images – this is the first smartphone camera to surpass the 100 million pixel mark, being capable of generating 12032 × 9024 pixel photos. In low light conditions, Tetracell technology comes into play, combining four 0.8 μm pixels to function as a single 1.6 μm, generating 27 megapixel photos.
Still at the rear, there is a 20-megapixel (f / 1.69) wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel (f / 2) telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom that allows you to take macro photos from a distance of just 1.5 cm of the object. Obviously, the Mi Mix Alpha does not have a front camera. Or it has three front cameras. It depends on your perspective.
For the rest, we have powerful hardware for a top of the line: Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus processor with 5G modem, 12 GB of RAM, 512 GB of internal storage and a 4,050 mAh battery with a fast charge of 40 watts. The fingerprint reader is located under the screen, as well as the speaker for phone calls and the ultrasonic proximity sensor.
The Mi Mix Alpha will be launched in December and will be manufactured on a small scale, according to the company. But Xiaomi doesn’t even need to artificially limit production, because it will be for a few anyway: for the equivalent of $ 2,800, the device is significantly more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy Fold, which lands in the west for $ 1,980.
