Microsoft announced that the card expansion of storage Xbox Series X and s will be sold in Brazil for R $ 2,229 – the price in the US is US $ 229. official page with the product was put on the air by the company, but the sale, as well as the sale of the console itself, has not yet started.
Similar to what happened with other past devices from the company, the external storage is a proprietary SSD memory card, manufactured by Seagate. This means that the consoles will not be compatible with other types of cards for this function.
The cost draws attention because it is very close to the price of the Xbox Series S itself, which was announced at $ 2,999 in Brazil – and $ 299 in the USA. In addition, it is worth remembering that the S Series comes with 500GB of internal disk space, considered little for new generation games, which should constantly exceed 100Gb.
However, both Xbox Series X and Series S are compatible with solutions via USB. It is possible to connect external storage via the USB input of the consoles, as it also happens on Xbox One and PS4.
The PS5 also allows users to expand the internal memory with external storage, in addition to allowing the replacement of the SSD inside the console. However, for this, it is necessary that the SSD has the same characteristics as it comes from the factory, with PCIe 4.0 NVMe technology.
For the time being Sony has not announced an official option, but, as pointed out by The Verge, a Samsung SSD with 1TB recently arrived on the market and costs $ 230, practically half the price of the PS5.
The commercialization of memory expansion should start in November in Brazil. In the USA it is already available in pre-order.
