O Windows 10 is receiving one more semiannual update: the November 2019 Update can be downloaded by PC users who visit Windows Update. There is little news, including a more powerful search in the File Explorer, additional controls for notifications and improvements behind the scenes.
Microsoft has stopped pushing updates since the October 2018 Update deleted files last year. Now, the company starts releasing the new version of Windows 10 only to users who go to Windows Update. Gradually, it expands this to more PCs.
Currently, about 57% of Windows 10 computers are on the May 2019 Update, according to AdDuplex. Meanwhile, 14% still run the April 2018 Update, whose support is now over: this version will no longer receive security updates on the Home and Pro variants.
Therefore, Microsoft warns: if you are running the April 2018 Update (1803), the system will automatically download the November 2019 Update (1909) in the coming weeks; you can choose when the PC will restart. To find your version, open the Start menu and type “winver”.
How to install Windows 10 November update
To install the November 2019 Update, do the following:
- follow the path Settings> Update and Security> Windows Update;
- select Check for updates;
- below that button, an item called “Feature Update for Windows 10, version 1909” should appear, so select Download and install now;
- select Restart now or, if you prefer, click Schedule a reboot to choose a specific date and time.
Windows can automatically schedule the reboot at a time when you don’t normally use the PC. It is also possible to pause the update for up to 35 days (seven days at a time, up to five times).
It is worth remembering that if version 1909 does not appear for you, Microsoft probably blocked the update on your PC due to some incompatibility, either from installed programs or drivers. In this case, it will be necessary to wait a little longer until this is corrected.
If you prefer to install the update via ISO, follow these instructions from Bleeping Computer.
