Sony reduces price of PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro after tax cut | Games

THE Sony reduced the suggested price of the PlayStation 4, PS4 Pro, PlayStation VR and DualShock wireless controls: the company says this is a “result of the reduction in IPI for video games”. This month, President Jair Bolsonaro signed a decree that lessens this tax on consoles, parts and accessories.

“As a result of the reduction in the IPI for video games, we will reflect this price change in our hardware products,” says Sony in a statement. These are the new official prices:

  • Playstation 4: R $ 2,399 (before R $ 2,599)
  • PlayStation 4 Pro: R $ 2,799 (before R $ 2,999)
  • PlayStation VR: R $ 2,599 (before R $ 2,799)
  • Dualshock 4 wireless control: R $ 249 (before R $ 259)

Of course, you can find the PS4 at lower prices in online retail: the 500 GB version sells from R $ 1,600, while the 1 TB PS4 Pro starts at R $ 2,450.

Microsoft has yet to announce changes to Xbox One pricing.

Bill wants to zero tax on electronic games

Decree 9,971 / 2019 established new IPI rates for consoles without an integrated screen, which dropped from 50% to 40%. In the case of parts and accessories, the rate went from 40% to 32%. Video games with integrated screens also saw a reduction in the rate, from 20% to 16%.

This decree does not affect the charging of tax on electronic games. However, a PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) is being analyzed in the Senate to zero the tax on consoles and games produced in Brazil. It was approved this month by the CCJ (Commission for Constitution, Justice and Citizenship), but it is yet to pass through the Chamber.
