Hours before the official announcement of the Galaxy Note 10, Samsung confirmed the processor that equips the novelty: this is the Exynos 9825, octa-core chip with 7 nanometer technology that promises to be the most advanced that the company has ever developed.
You can tell that the Exynos 9825 is an improved version of the Exynos 9820, processor unveiled in 2018 that is present in the Galaxy S10 line. The differences start with the aforementioned 7 nanometer lithography – the Exynos 9820 is 8 nanometers.
Samsung explains that this advance was possible thanks to the use of Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV), a type of lithography based on a very short wavelength that, as such, is ideal for very miniaturized chips.
For you to know, chips with lithographs like 10 and 14 nanometers are usually manufactured with a beam with a wavelength of 193 nanometers; the EUV is able to work with a length of 13.5 nanometers.
Thanks to the new lithography standard, the Exynos 9825 is able to occupy 40% less physical space, consumes up to 50% less energy and has up to 20% higher performance compared to 10 nanometer processors, according to Samsung.
That is why, although it has the core configuration and the Mali-G76 GPU that appear on the Exynos 9820, the Exynos 9825 promises to be slightly more efficient than its predecessor.
Not by chance, Samsung points out that the new processor improves the gaming experience, can record 4K videos at 150 fps or 8K at 30 fps and, thanks to its neural processing unit (NPU), it can identify accurately and apply the most appropriate adjustments for each type of photo.
Independent tests will tell you whether the Exynos 9825 is all that, but the chip is expected to perform at the same level as the Snapdragon 855 – or at least close.
Following the strategy adopted in past generations, Samsung should launch the Galaxy Note 10 in version with Exynos 9825 in certain markets (most of them) and with Snapdragon 855 in others.
