Samsung may launch foldable flip-style cell phone with 6.7-inch screen

After a considerable delay caused by design flaws, the Galaxy Fold will be officially launched this September. But it may not be long before Samsung launch another foldable cell phone: the company is planning to announce a model with horizontal fold in the first half of 2020.

The information comes from Bloomberg, which also states that the supposed new smartphone will have two major advantages over the Galaxy Fold: reduced thickness and, mainly, more affordable price – the idea is to make the device available to a wide number of consumers.

The vehicle also says the device will have a 6.7-inch screen. As the fold must be horizontal, something that is expected to resemble a cell phone is expected. Rumors also point out that when folded, the new Galaxy will assume a square shape.

There is no information about the technical sheet, but it is said that the device will have a selfie camera on the top of the screen in a position similar to that of the Galaxy Note 10. The rear should have two cameras that will be positioned to the front when the smartphone is folded.

Although the technical details are scarce, it is assumed that the horizontal fold will bring an important functional advantage when compared to the Galaxy Fold: when the phone is open, the screen will have the same shape as conventional smartphones, thus, the adaptation applications and interfaces tends to take little work.

There is also an affection “trauma” here: what if Samsung’s new foldable cell phone has any of the weaknesses that hampered the launch of the Galaxy Fold?

To avoid these problems, the company would be working on more resistant components, but that would not turn the smartphone into a mess. Among these items may be an ultra-thin glass (UTG) to protect the screen, which is only 3% of the thickness of the crystals normally used for this purpose.

But, if the project is real, there is also the chance that it will never leave the prototype phase: according to sources heard by Bloomberg, the launch of this foldable phone may depend on the acceptance that the Galaxy Fold has on the market.
