THE Sony announced a price drop for the PS5, both in the digital version and in the edition with disc player – the new values are now R $ 4,199 and R $ 4,699, respectively. Accessories have also been reduced, including the DualSense control and the HD camera. The novelty came after Microsoft also announced discounts on the pre-order of the Xbox Series X and Series S.
The PS5 received a reduction of 6% in the model with a drive for physical media and 6.67% in the version for digital only games. The percentage was similar for accessories. These are the new suggested prices:
- PS5 with Blu-ray Ultra HD player: R $ 4,699 (before R $ 4,999)
- PS5 Digital Edition: R $ 4,199 (before R $ 4,499)
- DualSense wireless control: R $ 469 (before R $ 499)
- HD camera: R $ 419 (before R $ 449)
“If you have pre-ordered it, don’t worry: the retailer will send information directly in the next few days,” says Sony in a statement. The console will be delivered from November 19.
It is worth noting that, in the case of Xbox, several retailers have not answered whether they will return the price difference to pre-sale customers – Amazon is one of the exceptions. Some websites have not even lowered the price of Microsoft consoles. We’ll keep an eye out to see if stores will do the same with the PlayStation 5.
Sony reduces PS5 price
As in the case of Microsoft, the drop in the price of PS5 was motivated by the reduction of the IPI (Tax on Industrialized Products), announced by President Jair Bolsonaro last October 26th.
The tax for consoles and gaming machines went from 40% to 30%. The rate on console parts and accessories, and game machines with images reproduced on a screen, went from 32% to 22%. Portable machines or not, but with built-in screens, had a reduction in IPI from 16% to 6%.
