THE Moto G5 and Moto G5S are receiving Android 8.1 Oreo in Brazil, first in the retail version; whoever bought the cell phone at the operator (TIM, Vivo and Claro) will be considered later. The Moto G5 Plus and Moto G5S Plus are also being updated in the country. None of them will receive Android 9 Pie.
THE official site Motorola Brasil says that the Moto G5 and Moto G5S will be updated first for those who have the retail version, and then for those who purchased from the operator.
The status of the Moto G5 and Moto G5S in the retail version is: “Android 8.1 (Oreo) with update started in September 2018”. Meanwhile, the update is “pending adaptations and tests” for TIM, Claro and Vivo.
These are the news, identical to the Moto G5 and G5S:
- Android ™ 8.1 Oreo ™: several improvements, such as new multitasking features, more efficient notification controls, improved functions for saving data and battery, new battery menu interface and improvements in Bluetooth
- Android Security: includes updates for Android security patches until August 1, 2018
- Stability improvements: includes changes that correct errors and optimize the stability of your phone
Oreo 8.1 arrived for my G5S, I removed all apps, put the load at 100% and I will update now. I hope it’s not a problem, I’m always afraid of these updates, because it is 8 or 80 or better enough or makes it worse haha

Motorola is still releasing Android Oreo
Motorola has almost finished upgrading its devices to the Oreo. Only the Moto G4 Plus is missing, which will receive the update after “errors in our marketing materials”, in which it promised “versions of the Android N and O operating system”. She is inviting users to soak test through the MFN (Motorola Feedback Network).
The Moto Z line has already been updated for the Oreo, as well as the Moto X4. This is the complete list:
please note that the Moto G5 line (G5, G5 Plus, G5S, G5S Plus) will not be upgraded to Android 9 Pie. Only the Moto Z3 / Z3 Play will be covered; Moto Z2 Play / Z2 Force; Moto X4; and Moto G6 / G6 Play / G6 Plus.
