Microsoft to announce Surface with ARM processor | Computer

Tomorrow, Wednesday (2), the Microsoft will announce in New York its new batch of laptops Surface. But, for a change, leaks have already appeared for screw up the surprise. One reinforces rumors that the company will launch a Surface with a processorARM.

If the leaks are correct – and they probably are, because they came from Evan Blass (@evleaks) -, Microsoft will introduce at least two new laptops, in addition to a new Surface Pro hybrid and the ARM chip model.

Two of the novelties will be the successor models of the Surface 2 line: the 13-inch Surface 3 it’s the 15 inch Surface 3 (with 15.6 inch screen, actually).

The images indicate that both will have a design similar to the current models. The main changes should be in the hardware – it is even said that Microsoft will use AMD processors in the line.

Another novelty must be the Surface Pro 7. The new two in one (tablet + laptop) should be a little thinner than its predecessor (the Surface Pro 6), but will maintain the design pattern of this one. Apparently, the model will have a USB-C port and, of course, a removable keyboard that also acts as a protective cover.

But the title of the main novelty will probably go to the Surface with ARM processor. The model must be equipped with a Qualcomm chip, be compatible with LTE (or even 5G) and have an estimated battery life of 20 hours.

There, on the battery, is one of the reasons for Microsoft to launch a Surface with ARM chip. This architecture has significantly lower power consumption than Intel and AMD processors.

In addition, as a rule, ARM chips do not make the equipment overheat – without the need for advanced cooling mechanisms, it is possible to make the device as a whole thinner.

These advantages are accompanied by a concern: that the equipment has performance problems with Windows 10 or incompatibility with important applications for the platform. Proof of this is that the Surface RT, tablet with ARM chip that Microsoft announced in 2012, was anything but a sales success.

But times have changed. Windows 10 has been optimized to work with ARM and Qualcomm promises a lot of performance on the platform with Snapdragon 8cx chips, which were designed especially for laptops – it is not clear whether the Surface with ARM will be based on a processor of this line, however.

Evan Blass did not release photos, but pointed out that, in addition to all these models, Microsoft should announce a Surface with two screens.

As you already know, Microsoft will unveil the new Surfaces this Wednesday. O Tecnoblog will bring all the news, of course.
