THE MediaTek announced its newest processor this Monday (17th). This is the MediaTek Dimensity 800U, a component with eight cores of up to 2.4 GHz for intermediate cell phones and support for 5G, screens with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and cameras with a resolution of up to 64 megapixels.
Like the Dimensity 720 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 690, the new processor takes the 5G to smartphones with intermediate specifications and more affordable prices. The chip is capable of reaching download speeds of up to 2.3 Gb / s and has support for two carrier chips (Dual SIM) even with 5G enabled.
Developed in a 7 nanometer process, the octa-core component is formed by two 2.4 GHz ARM Cortex-A76 cores and six more 2 GHz ARM Cortex-A55 cores, in addition to the Mali-G57 MC3 graphics chip. The new Dimensity 800U is compatible with LPDDR4x RAM up to 12 GB (2,133 MHz), UFS 2.2 storage, Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 5.
The new MediaTek processor from the Dimensity series still supports the display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, Full HD + resolution (up to 2520 x 1080 pixels) and HDR10 +. As for photography, the chip allows the installation of cameras with a resolution of up to 64 megapixels and is capable of shooting in 4K (up to 3840 x 2160 pixels).
This is yet another launch by MediaTek to drive the use of 5G around the world. In early August, the company introduced a new modem compatible with fifth generation networks in partnership with Intel, the MediaTek T700, in order to bring the technology to computers. The component is expected to mark its notebook debut next year.
There is no forecast for a cell phone launch with the MediaTek Dimensity 800U.
