THE Microsoft found a guy named Mackenzie “Mac” Book to advertise the Surface Laptop 2 and to compare it to MacBook Air gives Apple. Both notebooks have basic models with an 8th generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, but the Microsoft laptop does better in performance and battery life.
The Microsoft commercial says the Surface Laptop 2 has a battery that lasts longer (with local video playback), is faster than the MacBook Air (on GeekBench) and has a touchscreen, unlike the Apple notebook. “You should buy a Surface; trust me, I’m Mac Book ”, says the boy.
In the US, the most recent MacBook Air model – launched in July – starts at $ 1,099. It has Intel Core i5-8210Y processor two cores with base frequency of 1.60 GHz and TurboBoost of 3.90 GHz.
Meanwhile, the Surface Laptop 2 starts at $ 999: the base model features the Core i5-8250U processor four cores, with base frequency of 1.60 GHz and TurboBoost of 3.40 GHz.
It is not surprising that the Microsoft notebook has a higher performance: it reaches notes on GeekBench ranging from 9,000 to 13,000 points; the MacBook Air reaches only 7,880 points, according to Laptop Mag.
Surface Laptop 2 has more autonomy than MacBook Air
Microsoft tests battery life by playing a locally stored video, which is not the best way to assess a notebook’s autonomy. O Laptop Mag does something better: they surf the web via Wi-Fi with 150-nits screen brightness. Here, the most recent MacBook Air lasted 8h51min, versus 9h22 on the Surface Laptop 2.
The commercial also mentions the Surface Laptop 2’s touchscreen; remember that this notebook does not rotate 360 degrees, that is, it does not have a tablet mode. Therefore, the touchscreen is not as useful as on the Surface Pro with detachable keyboard.
And, of course, none of this works if you prefer macOS; in this case, Microsoft cannot help. In Brazil, the MacBook Air (2019) starts at R $ 9,699; Surface Laptop 2 is not officially sold in the country.
