Instagram says it wants to offer a healthier environment to its users. Thinking about it, the social network began to release to everyone a feature that silences interactions of unwanted accounts. With it, it is possible to hide a person’s comments without having to block them.
Restringir, as it is called, has been under development since at least July. According to Instagram, the goal is to combat bullying, especially among younger users. This is because the platform identified that many refuse to report or block colleagues who practice bullying.
According to the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri many think this makes the problem worse. “We started to ask, ‘Why aren’t you using the tools available today?'” He said in an interview with NBC. “‘Why not block someone who is intimidating you?’ And we hear very consistently, particularly from teenagers, that this can often escalate the situation. ”
With the solution presented by the social network, owners of restricted accounts will still be able to interact in their photos. Comments, however, will only be available to them and will only be made public if you approve them.
Restricted accounts will not know if you are online and will not appear in notifications. The messages they send will not appear on the main Direct screen – but in the message request area. And even if you open one of the messages, the other person will not receive a read receipt.
To restrict an Instagram account, simply drag an unwanted comment to the left. The feature will also be available on each profile page and in the Privacy area of the social network settings, which will allow you to remove the restriction at any time.
