The situation of the Kill 30 and Mate 30 Pro in the West is complicated, but the Huawei showed that things in China are going very well, thank you: last Saturday (28th), CEO Richard Yu declared that the pre-order of the Mate 30 series exceeded a record 1 million orders in just three hours.
According to Chalk, the announcement was made during the opening of Huawei’s first flagship store in Shenzen, China. According to Yu, the volume of pre-sales for the Mate 30 series was six times greater than that of the P30 and P30 Pro, which hit 10 million units in 85 days.
In just a minute, Huawei made 500 million yuan in new smartphones, equivalent to R $ 280 million – which is still a quarter of the 2.1 billion yuan (R $ 1.2 billion) invested in research and development for the Mate 30 series, which was attended by more than 3,000 employees.
Even with U.S. sanctions, Huawei plans to sell 20 million Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro worldwide. It is an aggressive goal, but not impossible: the Mate 20 series it took five months to sell 10 million units, while the Mate 10, launched in 2017, took twice as long to reach the same mark.
For Huawei, if there were no trade war, it would be possible to surpass the 300 million cell phone mark sold in 2019, more than the 205 million cell phone that the company sold last year. But with American obstacles, production is expected to fall between 40 and 60 million this year.
There is still no forecast for the launch of the Mate 30 series outside of China. Smartphones are expected to arrive with an unlocked bootloader to facilitate the installation of the Google application suite by alternative means, and Huawei promises to invest more than $ 1 billion in its own app store to attract developers.
