Google Chrome displays meaning of words with a touch on Android | Applications and Software

O Google Chrome now displays the meaning of words with a single touch. The feature allows users to discover the definition of a term in a few seconds, without using the address bar of the browser to search. The function is available to some users in the Google browser for Android.

The new functionality of Google Chrome comes close to the selection tool of Kindle, since it offers the meaning of a word in a floating window. For this, it is necessary that the user simply touch the desired term. Then, a small tab will appear at the bottom of the screen with the definition.

They are presented from brief dictionary definitions with the respective phonemes of each word to the identification of fruits, places, marks and the like after the touch. It is still possible to expand the popup to view search results on Google, without having to type the term in the browser’s address bar.

Still, not all languages seem to work with the feature. In tests carried out by Tecnoblog on version 83.0.4103.106 of Google Chrome for Android on Wednesday (24), the dictionary only recognized words in English. When touching a word in Portuguese, the window displayed only related searches on Google.

The function has not yet been released automatically for all users of Google Chrome stable. In any case, it is possible to force the activation of the tool by “chrome: // flags” in the option “Contextual Search definitions”. It is also recommended to update your browser on the Google Play Store before changing settings.
