Not that the GoPro line no longer has competition, but DJI seems willing to take this fight seriously: well known for its line of drones, the Chinese manufacturer announced on Wednesday (15) the Osmo Action, action camera that records videos in 4K and brings, among many other features, electronic image stabilization.
At the first glance, the DJI Osmo Action draws attention by bringing two screens: the front is right next to the camera lens, is 1.4 inches and can be deactivated quickly to save battery; the rear is 2.25 inches, is touch sensitive and has protection from fingerprint marks.
The idea is to allow the user to capture images with ease, both of what happens around him and of himself. A maximum brightness of 750 nits will ensure that the person sees the contents of both displays even if they are in a location with incidence of sunlight.
But the camera itself is what matters most. We are talking about a 1 / 2.3 inch sensor with 12 megapixels. With it, it is possible to record videos in 4K resolution and 60 fps (frames per second) or 4K with HDR and 30 fps.
Among the complementary features of Osmo Action, DJI highlights the slow motion modes of up to 240 fps, timelapse and exposure of up to 120 seconds (ideal for night sky), as well as a speaker and two microphones that even allow voice commands ( English and Mandarin only).
Another highlight is RockSteady, electronic image stabilization technology (EIS), which, with the aid of specific algorithms, makes the camera stable photos or videos even in very busy scenes.
Also according to the manufacturer, Osmo Action was developed to withstand adverse situations. The camera has a robust body, is water resistant at depths of up to 11 meters and withstands extreme temperatures (between -10 and 40 degrees Celsius), for example. The lens consists of three layers of glass and comes with protection that repels fingerprints, reflections, dust and liquids.
The battery has 1,300 mAh and up to 93 minutes of recording time in 4K and 30 fps with RockSteady technology enabled or up to 135 minutes in 1080p and 30 fps without RockSteady. The full recharge time is 90 minutes. In terms of storage, the camera supports microSD up to 256 GB.
In the United States, DJI Osmo Action is on sale for $ 349, meaning it is $ 50 cheaper than the GoPro Hero 7 Black, perhaps its most direct rival.
There is still no forecast for the launch of Osmo Action in Brazil.
