O Apple TV + was launched this Friday (1st) in more than 100 countries, including Brazil: the streaming service gives seven days free and charges R $ 9.90 per month for content in 4K HDR. The catalog is very small: there are 7 original series, as The Morning Show, See and Dickinson, plus the documentary The Elephant Queen; other titles will debut soon.
All content in the Apple TV + catalog is available in 4K with HDR in Dolby Vision format; some items also feature Dolby Atmos audio. You can choose to listen to the original audio, dubbed in Portuguese or with AD (audio description); and can activate subtitles in our language.
You can download and watch the episodes without an internet connection. In addition, up to six family members can share the subscription.
Which devices are compatible with Apple TV +?
You can watch Apple TV + on most Apple devices: on an iPhone or iPod Touch with iOS 12.3 or later, on an iPad with iPadOS, on an Apple TV with tvOS 12.3 or later, or on a Mac running macOS Catalina.
It is also possible to watch the series via Google Chrome, Firefox or Safari by accessing tv.apple.com on the computer. And the service is available on the Amazon Fire TV Stick and on some Samsung smart TVs launched in 2018-2019 – check the list here.
There is still no Apple TV + app for Android phones, but I believe this is a matter of time: Apple Music is present on the Google platform, for example. Ah, there is also no support for transmission via Chromecast, only AirPlay.
Speaking of which, some smart TVs from Samsung, LG and Vizio are compatible with the AirPlay 2 standard; Sony TVs will be supported later this year. That way, you can mirror the contents of an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or Mac on the big screen.
Apple TV + debut with 7 original series
For now, Apple TV + has a very limited catalog. The service offers only the first three episodes of this series:
- The Morning Show
- The Ghost Writer
- For All Mankind
- Snoopy in Space
Apple will release a new episode a week. In addition, there is the documentary The Elephant Queen, which accompanies a herd of elephants crossing Africa.
The catalog also mentions the film Hala, which will debut “soon”, in addition to these series that will come in the future:
- Servant (November 28th)
- Truth Be Told (December 6)
- Oprah’s Book Club (coming soon)
Apple TV + is free for those who bought iPhone or Mac
Apple TV + costs R $ 9.90 per month or R $ 99.90 per year. However, to attract more users to TV +, Apple has been offering the service for free to anyone who has purchased a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac or iPod Touch since September 10, 2019: just open the TV app and select the “Get 1 year free” button.
This promotion is valid even in Brazil, but Apple remembers which is “for a limited time”, that is, it will not last forever. In addition, “customers who cancel during the offer period will lose the rest of the offer”; if you cancel before one year and then reactivate the subscription, you will have to pay.
And who subscribes to the Apple Music university plan will have TV + without overpaying for it: you don’t need to activate anything, just use streaming via the TV app. The user will lose free access to TV + if they cancel their Music subscription, or if they lose their student status (after graduation, for example).
