Along with the 16-inch MacBook Pro, the Apple announced that the new Mac Pro will finally be released in December: this is the most powerful computer ever launched by the company, with an Intel Xeon processor with up to 28 cores and support for up to 1.5 TB of RAM. In the same month, it will be possible to purchase the monitor Pro XDR Display and the support Pro Stand, which is sold separately.
In the new Mac Pro, Apple put aside the trash can design and adopted a “cheese grater” aesthetic, including the Pro Display XDR monitor. The computer is also much more expandable than before, with eight PCI Express slots, two Thunderbolt 3 ports via USB-C, two USB-A ports and two Gigabit Ethernet ports.
It will be possible to configure the Mac Pro with Intel Xeon processors from 12 to 28 cores; between 32 GB and 1.5 TB of RAM; SSD between 256 GB and 4 TB; and AMD Radeon Pro 580X, Vega II or Vega II Duo graphics cards.
For now, Apple reveals only the price of the cheapest model: it will be $ 5,999 in the USA. It comes with a 1.4 kW power supply, Magic Keyboard with numeric keypad and Magic Mouse 2. We still don’t know the values for Brazil.
Apple Pro Display XDR is 32 inches and 6K resolution
Meanwhile, the Pro Display XDR is a monitor with a 32-inch LCD panel and Retina 6K resolution (6016 × 3384); there are more than 20 million pixels. It starts at $ 4,999; the stainless steel Pro Stand is sold separately for another $ 999.
The “XDR” refers to the extreme dynamic range, that is, an HDR with greater brightness and contrast than normal. The Apple monitor has a typical brightness of 1,000 nits, but can reach 1,600 nits. Its contrast ratio is 1,000,000: 1, comparable to an OLED display.
Initially, it will be possible to purchase the Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR only in the U.S. and only through the Apple Store online. The company took a long time to launch this new computer: it was scheduled for 2018, but has been postponed for this year – and will only be sold in December.
