After the recall of the MacBook Pro, Apple opened yet another program of this type, now for the Apple Watch: the company recognized that the display of certain models of the line can suddenly crack in the region of the edges and, therefore, it will change the screen of the affected watches for free.
The problem affects certain units of the Apple Watch Series 2 It’s from Apple Watch Series 3. In them, the crack can start on one side and then spread across the edge of the screen. According to Apple, the defect only manifests itself “under very rare circumstances”, even so, the display will be changed free of charge for all eligible units.
The program includes aluminum Apple Watch Series 2 watches (38 or 42 mm) sold between September 2016 and September 2017, in addition to Apple Watch Nike + Series 2 units sold between October 2016 and October 2017.
Aluminum Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) and Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) units marketed between September 2017 and September 2019 are also eligible, including Nike + versions here.
Note that in the case of the Apple Watch Series 3, the program applies to watches sold until this month. This detail suggests that the problem was recently resolved on the assembly line or that Apple will simply discontinue this series, which should come as no surprise: the company will announce the iPhone 11 on the 10th and, on the same date, may reveal a new Apple Watch.
Anyone who has an eligible unit can contact Apple support for guidance, as well as look for an official company store or an authorized service center. All guidance for changing your Apple Watch screen is available here.
