Apple announced on Tuesday (13) the first variant of its smart speaker, named HomePod mini. The gadget has computer audio to adjust the sound to the environment and is a direct competitor of Google Nest Audio, as well as the Amazon Echo which is already available for sale in the Brazilian market.
The first HomePod was announced in June 2017, during the Apple developer event, WWDC. The launch took place only in February of the following year, after successive delays and placed the apple company in the smart speakers market, which already has names like Google and Amazon.
Rumors of a HomePod mini have been circulating on the internet for a long time, especially with the advancement of Apple Music for other platforms, such as Samsung TVs, Sony’s Android TV and Roku dongles.
New HomePod mini is smaller and cheaper
Outside, the HomePod is basically a miniature version of the original model, with a fabric finish and a touch screen on the top. In measurements the gadget is just over half the height of the first HomePod and approximately half the weight.
Inside is the Apple S5, a chip that is also responsible for everything that happens on the Apple Watch Series 5 and SE. As the speaker is bigger and stays in the socket all the time, certainly the processor is looser to run without fear of being happy – even for a speaker, where chip speed is not really an essential point.
One of the features of this chip is computational audio, which uses the only speaker present in the gadget to analyze the environment 180 times per second. The result makes the sound equalized to play in the best possible way, more or less as the original HomePod already does.
Another is the greater integration between HomePod mini and an iPhone. When the user is listening to music on the smartphone, simply approach the speaker and it will be played on the gadget instantly. Most likely, Apple’s smart speaker uses UWB technology for this feat, as iPhones 11 are compatible with it.
It is possible to group multiple HomePods mini so that any song, podcast or radio via streaming can be played on all of them at the same time. Finally, the smart speaker has three microphones pointed outwards to understand the command “Hey there, Siri”, next to a fourth microphone inside and which cancels the audio. The idea is to help when it comes to understanding the user’s voice.
The HomePod mini will be launched on November 16 in gray and black, with a suggested retail price of $ 99 – the value represents only 28.6% of the cost of launching the first HomePod. The pre-sale will start on November 6th. Sought by Tecnoblog, Apple says that there is no forecast for launching the HomePod mini in Brazil.
